Emmy-nominaties 2026: The Pitt domineert

De race naar de 78ste Primetime Emmy Awards is officieel begonnen. De nominaties, die woensdag werden bekendgemaakt, laten een televisiejaar zien waarin nieuwkomers doorbreken, gevestigde namen hun status bevestigen en een aantal grote favorieten onverwacht naast een nominatie grijpen.
De absolute winnaar van de nominaties is HBO's ziekenhuisdrama The Pitt. De serie voert de lijst aan met 25 nominaties en bevestigt daarmee haar status als de nieuwe prestigehit van het televisieseizoen. Ook komediesensatie Hacks behoort opnieuw tot de grote kanshebbers, terwijl series als The Diplomat, Paradise en Slow Horses sterk vertegenwoordigd zijn in de dramacategorieën. Hacks brak trouwens het record van meeste nominaties voor een comedyserie, een record dat tot op heden in handen was van The Studio (2025) en The Bear (2024)

De Emmy’s worden uitgereikt in Los Angeles op 14 september.

De grote winnaar: The Pitt
Dat The Pitt de meeste nominaties zou krijgen, zagen veel kenners aankomen, maar de omvang van het succes is indrukwekkend. De medische dramaserie is niet alleen genomineerd voor 'beste dramaserie', maar scoorde ook in vrijwel alle belangrijke acteer-, regie- en technische categorieën.
Voor hoofdrolspeler Noah Wyle betekent het een fraaie comeback. Na zijn iconische rol in ER staat hij opnieuw in de schijnwerpers met een ziekenhuisserie die zowel critici als publiek wist te overtuigen.

Sterk jaar voor HBO
Ook dit jaar bewijst HBO opnieuw waarom het een van de dominante spelers in televisieland blijft. Naast The Pitt doen onder meer The Gilded Age, A Knight Of The Seven Kingdoms en verschillende miniseries volop mee om de prijzen: 41% hiervan werd aangeleverd door twee series: The Pitt en Hacks.
HBO haalde in het totaal 122 nominaties, maar deed het minder goed dan vorig jaar toen het een record scoorde van 140 nominaties.  Tweede werd Netflix dat in het totaal 111 nominaties binnenrijfde, 9 minder dan vorig jaar. Apple TV werd 3de met hun beste score tot op heden: 89.

Opvallende verrassingen
Een van de prettigste verrassingen is de sterke opmars van nieuwe komedie Margo's Got Money Troubles. De serie wist direct meerdere belangrijke nominaties binnen te halen en geldt als een van de frisse nieuwkomers van het jaar. Ook DTF St. Louis verraste aangenaam met niet minder dan 13 nominaties, ook in belangrijke categorieën.

Sarah Snook blijft na haar succes met Succession indruk maken. Ze verdiende opnieuw een nominatie, ditmaal voor haar rol in de miniserie All Her Fault, die het met 7 nominaties ook niet onaardig deed. Daarmee bevestigt ze haar positie als een van de meest gewaardeerde televisieactrices van dit moment. En hoewel Euphoria niet overladen werd met positieve kritieken scoorde de HBO-serie toch 7 nominaties. Widow’s Bay, Beef en Pluribus deden het ook uitstekend, maar een echte verrassingen kun je dat niet noemen.

De grootste teleurstellingen
Zoals ieder jaar zijn er ook teleurstellingen. Enkele veelbesproken series kregen minder nominaties dan vooraf werd verwacht, terwijl sommige favorieten volledig buiten de boot vielen in de belangrijkste categorieën.
Series of personen die voor ons totaal verkeerd werden beoordeeld (te weinig of geen nominaties) waren Half Man, Industry, de series van Taylor Sheridan, Task, de acteurs van The Bear, Death By Lightning, Your Friends & Neighbors (dat wél genomineerd werd als ‘beste dramaserie’ maar voor de rest erg matig beloond werd) en Finneas (de muziek voor The Beef).
