Peaky Blinders wint BAFTA voor 'beste serie'

De uitslag van de Craft Awards liet het al een beetje vermoeden: 2018 zou niet het jaar worden van The Crown, Black Mirror of Taboo, ondanks het feit dat ze respectievelijk 10, 8 en 6 nominaties in de wacht sleepten. Afgelopen zondag werd dit vermoeden bevestigd want The Crown won slechts één BAFTA met Vanessa Kirby voor 'beste vrouwelijke bijrol in een drama'. De prijs voor ‘beste drama serie’ ging evenmin naar The Crown, maar naar Peaky Blinders.

De grote winnaar van deze BAFTA Awards waren This Country en de miniserie Three Girls. Met de Craft Awards erbij won Three Girls 5 BAFTA-Awards o.a. voor ‘beste actrice in een drama’ waar Molly Windsor het haalde van Claire Foy. This Country was goed voor 3 Awards. De prijs voor ‘beste buitenlandse serie’ ging naar The Handmaid’s Tale terwijl Sean Bean – heel terecht – de BAFTA won voor ‘beste acteur in een drama’ voor zijn vertolking als priester in de miniserie Broken.

Het event zelf was heel kleurloos en onevenwichtig met weinig animo en dito sterren. De presentatie was voor het eerst in handen van Sue Perkins (The Great British Bake Off)
